P300 BCI Application for Paralytic Patients

Objective: The project aims to develop an application for people suffering from ”Locked-in syndrome” to enable them to communicate with the external environment through their brain signals.

Application: Paralytic patients are often immobilized and require a caretaker or a medical attendant to take care of their routine activities. Moreover the patient should be able to communicate his or her needs to the attendant. For example, if the patient is feeling cold and wants the room temperature to be increased; or if he is patient is feeling thirsty and wants a glass of water. Since the patient is paralyzed and not able to speak or express himself explicitly, a brain computer interface which would enable him to communicate with the external environment would be of great use.
